Tucked away in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Tregannick is a luxury holiday home with a difference. Unlike the rental cottages which dot this area of Penwith, you would be staying in an outstanding Modern Movement villa designed in 1935-36 by the Cornish architect Geoffrey Bazeley.
Many of the rooms in the house have original oak panelling and floors as well as the fittings which are so specific to the Modern Movement.
Tregannick has a large living room, dining room, kitchen and games room as well as five bedrooms each of which can accommodate two people. It contains just about every luxury including a newly-installed kitchen with top-of-the-range appliances, pool table, flat screen TV, DVD player, Hi-Fi, DAB radio, laundry, and barbecue to name but a few.
The house is set in a large, secluded, south-facing formal garden surrounded by arable farmland just outside the village of Sancreed.
The narrowness of the land in southern Cornwall not only guarantees a remarkably warm micro-climate, but also means that the coastline is never far away. You can choose from large expanses of sandy beach at St Ives to small secluded coves such as Nanjizal. Surfers can visit Sennen Cove where the British Club Championships will be held in July. Walkers have the world-famous South West Coast Path and hundreds of miles of inland paths and bridleways.
If you want to explore the history of Cornwall, there are St Michael’s Mount, the many tin mines and the iron age settlement of Carn Euny.
The area draws artists from around the world due to the extraordinary beauty of the area and the quality of the light. For this reason there are numerous art galleries in the area including the Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden.
Cornwall has seen an amazing upturn in its gastronomy. While this started with the efforts of Rick Stein up the coast in Padstow, the phenomenon has spread to Penwith and outstanding restaurants can be found throughout the area – many focussing on the freshly-landed seafood.
Less upmarket, there are any number of welcoming pubs in the area which offer the regional ales and cider and a broad range of locally-produced food.
While you can drive to Tregannick, why not take the train to Penzance? Alternatively, Newquay airport is an hour’s drive away.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
